Silver Tea brings friends together before the holidays - mySanAntonio.com

FRANKFORT — Friends gathered at the First Congregational Church of Frankfort on Saturday to enjoy the annual Silver Tea.

Tea was served from the events namesake silver teapots and pitchers, but this year, there was more of an "north woods" theme. Instead of the ornate silver table service, there were rustic wreaths and garlands.

Guests were still able to enjoy a variety of hors d'oeuvres made by volunteers, which included small sausages, meatballs, spreads, crackers, shrimp, fruit and finger sandwiches.

A bake sale was held where visitors could purchase cookies by the pound.

The early history of the Silver Tea has been lost, but it has been continuous for at least 90 years, and was started in the early 1900's. Stories from some of the oldest congregation members indicate it may have started as something for the women to do when hunting season started. It is also thought that the church was looking to do something with the silver tea set donated to the church many years ago.
